The Wireless Matrix Story

Founded by Dr. J. T. Knight, Wireless Matrix began its operations in 1991 as Interprovincial Satellite Services Ltd. (Intersat). Intersat became a leading developer and value-added provider of wireless data and fax services to corporate markets, building a reputation for technical excellence and exceptional service to its customers.

In April 2000, Intersat transformed itself into Wireless Matrix Corporation and continued to position itself in the wireless data services market. As part of this transformation, Wireless Matrix acquired Reston, Virginia-based Norcom Networks Corporation from Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor AS in February 2001. Through its Wide Area Wireless service, Norcom Networks had become a leading provider of wireless data services to businesses, supplying corporate internet access, dispatch, location and positioning services, and partnering with companies as diverse as Sears, Union Pacific and FedEx.

Wireless Matrix continued to expand its customer base to include key companies in the utility and rail industries. In 2006, it began to evolve its business model to meet the growing market for GPS and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) application services, services for which the company already provided the communications background.

Through a combination of in-house development and the strategic acquisitions of MobileAria in 2006 and Sapias in 2007, Wireless Matrix introduced FleetOutlook, a vehicle tracking and reporting application offered under a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. FleetOutlook has rapidly become a hallmark of the company's innovative approach to providing bottom line value, productivity increases and cost savings to Wireless Matrix customers.

The company continues to innovate as it explores the future of GPS and the value a robust solution brings to customers. New vehicle tracking and reporting features, higher speed broadband networks and next generation applications for data are all in the product roadmap as Wireless Matrix continues to be the premier provider of location-based solutions for businesses of any size.
