FleetOutlook Technology Platform

The FleetOutlook Platform is a three-tier architecture with the presentation and integration layers consisting of web servers (for UI) and web services (for data integration), the application layer, built using Java EE and the database layer, built on Oracle RAC.

The FleetOutlook web architecture dramatically improves the user experience using Adobe Flex, a Rich Internet Applications (RIA) platform to deliver functionality through a web browser. FleetOutlook uses open standards and is based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and is built for integration with customer systems and raising the bar on productivity and operational effectiveness. The platform also allows for security features at all levels: at the application level using a role-based security, at the data level and at a protocol level using SSL in addition to providing auditing of transactions. There is fault tolerance built into all layers and redundancy is available in power, hardware and network connections.

The FleetOutlook Application Platform consists of Business Operations Middleware (BOM), User Interface layer, Transaction Database, an Analytics/Reporting engine and an Integration Platform.

The BOM is the message acquisition, processing and event-action engine that manages the interplay between messages, business logic and user requests. The BOM supports complex events and controls processing enabling event-driven notifications that can feed into UI, reports and to Customer systems. The BOM is built on Oracle/BEA's Weblogic Server and is engineered to provide virtually uninterrupted operations.

The UI layer manages the user interaction and provides mapping services. The UI is built using Adobe's Flex to provide a very rich user experience. The mapping services use deCarta's mapping software to provide high end mapping services.

The Transaction database is the repository of messages, events and reference data. A sophisticated Admin application called the Business Support Network (BSN) manages the setup and configuration of Customers, devices, enterprises, groups, security, landmarks and localization settings. The database is built using Oracle 10g RAC technology.

The FleetOutlook integration makes it easy to enhance, extend and integrate customer systems seamlessly with FleetOutlook. The FleetOutlook integration is a robust platform that provides the customer with standards-based web service APIs that is based on Simple Object Access Protocol 1.1 (SOAP 1.1). The platform is built an Enterprise Service Bus to provide data transformation, routing, management and monitoring of the web services.

The FleetOutlook Analytics engine uses a multi-dimensional database structure to organize data to enable analytics processing and reporting services.
