Stratos, an Inmarsat company, is a world leader in delivering voice, data and IP communications to more than 20,000 customers worldwide.

The relationship between Wireless Matrix and Stratos began in September 2001 when the two companies initiated a hardware and data services agreement. Serving the oil field telemetry market, Stratos became Wireless Matrix’s sole United States distributor for fixed-site satellite service utilizing the SDX-1100 data terminal and, more recently, the next generation Satellite Data Terminal 5000 device.

The solution allows operators of remote sites to implement a consolidated, lower-cost and single-bill solution that replaces multiple terrestrial systems. Wireless Matrix supplies Stratos with both data terminals and mobile satellite data airtime, which Stratos markets to industries employing fixed-site technologies in the field that need to be managed from a central location.

What began as a business model encompassing on-site oil field operations has grown over the course of almost a decade to include a wide variety of remote monitoring and reporting situations. This includes the tower industry, where the monitoring of navigational lights on cellular infrastructure towers is regulated by strict FAA guidelines.

The automation of communication from these sites through this partnership allows the customer to more closely monitor critical remote infrastructure. This supports reduced need for non-critical site visits, rapid response for priority maintenance requirements, and greater ability to achieve industry compliance in daily operations.
